How to Pick Colors from Images

  1. Upload: Drag and drop any image (JPG, PNG, WEBP).
  2. Hover: Move your mouse over the image to use the zoom loupe for precision.
  3. Click: Click to lock the color. The code will appear in the right panel.
  4. Copy: Click the copy icon next to HEX, RGB, or HSL values.

Using the Screen Eyedropper

Our tool supports the modern EyeDropper API found in Chrome and Edge. This allows you to sample colors from outside the browser window—like your desktop wallpaper, other apps, or system UI.

Simply switch to the "From Screen" tab, click the button, and move your mouse anywhere on your screen.

Color Formats Explained

  • HEX: A 6-digit code used universally in web design (e.g., #FF5733).
  • RGB: Red, Green, Blue values (0-255). Used for screen displays.
  • HSL: Hue, Saturation, Lightness. Easier for humans to adjust intuitively.
  • CMYK: Cyan, Magenta, Yellow, Key (Black). Used for print design.

How do I get a hex code from an image?▼
Upload your image to our tool, then hover and click on any pixel. The HEX code (and other formats) will instantly appear in the side panel.
Can I pick a color from my screen?▼
Yes! Use the 'From Screen' tab and click 'Start Picking'. This uses the browser's EyeDropper API to sample colors from any window or app on your desktop.
Why doesn’t screen picker work in Safari/Firefox?▼
The EyeDropper API is currently supported mainly in Chromium-based browsers (Chrome, Edge, Opera). For other browsers, you can take a screenshot and use the 'From Image' mode.
Is my image uploaded to a server?▼
No. All color sampling happens locally in your browser using HTML5 Canvas. Your images never leave your device.
How do I extract a palette from a photo?▼
After uploading an image, click the 'Extract 5' button in the Palette section. Our algorithm analyzes the image to find the most dominant representative colors.
